Psalm 51 runs as a common thread through the sessions to help users see why the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus are so central to our faith.
Ideal for individual or small group use, each session contains icebreakers, New Testament character study, meditation from Psalm 51, application session, 'To-do' reflection, discussion starters and closing prayer.
Life Journeys – The Impossible Dream by Jeff Lucas
(six DVD-based studies)
Jeff Lucas takes us to India to explore what God has to say about poverty, injustice, oppression and exploitation, based on Micah 6:8. The studies are ideal for Lent studies.
As with other studies in the Life Journeys series, this comprises a DVD with six short sessions by Jeff Lucas and a booklet with discussion starters, prayers and daily Bible reading notes for personal use during the six weeks of the course.
Booklets can be purchased separately for participants.
Not a Tame Lion by Hilary Brand
Based around two Chronicles of Narnia films (The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Prince Caspian) and the film Shadowlands, this series challenges us to face an uncomfortable Lent, willing to submit our spirits to a little bit of mental exercise and our minds to a little bit of a spiritual challenge. Suitable for small groups, each session includes an introduction and questions for group study plus an additional study to “take it further”. Session titles are:- Living in the shadows Living with the beyond Living with the unexplained Living with what we’ve been given Living with absence There is also an additional session “Living in a sceptical age” which deals with handling the disbelief of others and our own personal doubts.
Our sound is our wound by Lucy Winkett ( Archbishop of Canterbury’s Lent book 2010 )
Our lives are lived against a backdrop of external and internal ‘soundscapes’. The Canon Precentor of St Paul’s Cathedral encourages us to think about how we listen for the voice of God within the sounds, noises, and music that surround our modern lives? Six chapters cover: The sound of Scripture The sound of Lament The sound of Freedom The sound of Resurrection The Sound of Angels Our sound is our Wound The book does not have discussion questions so is best suited to personal reflection.
Also suitable for Easter Reading
The Crown and the Fire by Tom Wright
Tom Wright encourages us to consider the words spoken to the cross, rather than those spoken from the cross; those spoken by Mary, the Roman Centurion, and also Pontius Pilate, who helped to instigate it. Could be adapted for group use.
The Things He said – The Story of the First Easter Day by Stephen Cottrell

This is a follow up to last years ‘ The Things He Carried .‘ Rather than emphasising the last words spoken on Good Friday this book deals with the words spoken on Easter Day. Following the resurrection we would expect the triumphant ‘’ I have risen from the dead! ‘’ but Jesus’ statements, taken from each of the Gospels, are so different. Suitable for both group and personal reflection.
