Daily Bible reading notes

Many people find it helpful to use daily Bible reading notes which give a suggested Bible reading for each day with notes to explain and apply the passage.   Many of these are published bi-monthly or quarterly and are dated, others are undated.  Re:fresh books and christian resources stocks notes from a range of publishers.  These include notes for children, young people and women as well as general adult notes.   A few are also produced in A4 large print format.

GETTING STARTED – The E100 Challenge

Part of the current drive to encourage people to read the Bible daily, Scripture Union’s E100 Challenge is based on 100 carefully-selected Bible passages – 50 in the Old Testament and 50 in the New Testament – selected to give an overview of the major themes and teachings in the Bible.  Typical passages cover one or two chapters.   The material is undated, so if a day is missed there is no pressure to ‘catch up’ and the passages are grouped in fives with a common theme.

The E100 leaflet is a simple DL colour leaflet listing the 100 readings together with a calendar to tick off the passages as they are read and helpful hints on Bible reading.

The Essential 100 is a book which provides a more effective introduction to Bible reading.  It follows the same 100 readings but for each day it proposes an introductory prayer, lists the reading, and gives a brief reflection and application followed by a further short prayer.
